Thursday Mar 14, 2024

Thursday Mar 14, 2024

As part of our work on DYW and Curriculum Innovation we have become increasingly aware that well developed and implemented Career Pathway and Work-based learning offers such as Foundation Apprenticeships can deliver against a number of key priorities in education such as attainment, the systematic progression of skills and positive stained destination.
This Podcast explores the importance of the topic both nationally as well as globally and its impact on learners more widely.
Join me, Klaus Mayer (ES Curriculum Innovation & DYW), Andrew Ritchie, Lead Officer for DYW at Aberdeenshire Council, Graeme Hendry, Head of Government, Parliamentary and Stakeholder Engagement at Skills Development Scotland, and my colleague, Andrew Creamer, Head of Learning, Teaching and Assessment at Education Scotland to consider some of the strategies and practicalities around the implementation of the work-based learning in secondary education.

Wednesday Mar 13, 2024

Through exploring the National Model we are seeking to build a shared understanding around professional learning and to demystify and exemplify aspects of the model by showing them in practise, in different settings and at different stages of a learning journey. At the centre of all these stories we will highlight the direct link between the learning that we undertake as educators and the impact of that learning on those we support, be that children, young people or adult learners

In this podcast resource we hear from Tania Czajka from City of Edinburgh Council and Lynne Jones and Karen Faulds from Scotland's National Centre for Languages discussing their journey from enquiry to a national community of practice centred around a play based approach to learning languages in early years.

“The aspirations of our youngsters are held down not by them – but by those around them.
We need to think differently, we need to plan around the child. We are there to build different scaffolding around each child so that they can climb as high as they want to climb.
Children can only aspire to be what they know exists”.
